Etiquette
Today I picked up a small pamphlet that was at a store. It’s called ‘Tic Tac: The Ultimate Guide to Mintertainment’. It’s just a small book with a few coupons in it, but the thing that caught my eye was a section called ‘Check out our Mintertainment hip tips for today’s social scene.’
It gives little tips on going on a date. For instance, ‘Did you know that whoever reaches a door first should open it - whether it’s a guy or girl?’
Also, ‘whoever extends the invite for drinks or dinner should reach for the check’.
Now, about the door issue, I have always opened the door if I reach it first, but it’s nice to have a guy run in front of me to open it for me. That’s just being a gentleman. I know things are different these days, but it’s still a manly thing to do - get the door for your girl.
About the check thing…it’s always so nice when a guy pays, but I will most of the time offer to pay something. Whether it’s the tip, or part of the bill. I know many of my guy friends go out with these girls that order the biggest thing on the menu, then sit back and watch while the guy forks over the cash. I say if you eat it, you should split it. I don’t agree with a girl paying the whole thing, especially if it’s a first date or something. Now, if you’ve been together awhile and are in that comfortable zone, then it doesn’t matter who pays.
What do you think about this? Have we moved into the modern age or are there still some things that should never change?
