My List of What I Look For in a Man

Published by dianae at 1:31 pm under General Edit This

Everyone has a ‘list’ that they carry around, usually in their head, about the type of person they are looking for.

For me? I don’t have an extensive list, just a few basic things, yet I still have trouble finding men that fit that category.

Here’s my list, if anyone is interested:

1. No kids: Been there, done that, don’t want to deal with it again. Let me clarify though. It’s not the kids that are a problem for me, it’s the mothers of these kids that seem to give me the problem. I don’t understand some of these people…they’ve been divorced/broken-up with the father of their kid(s) for however long, yet they still try and present a problem to daddy’s new girlfriend. One, that’s not fair to the kids, and two, it’s not fair to me!

2. Job: Yes, this is a simple one. They have to have a job. I don’t care what kind of job it is, but I like a man who works for a living. I know, I know, a lot to ask for, right? I don’t think so.

3. Car: Yes, they have to have a car too. Their own car. So many times I’ve made plans to go out with someone new, only to find out that I would have to be the one driving, because their car was either in the shop, or broke down and is currently being fixed. I mean, really? The least I could ask for is to be driven around for the first date. After that, I don’t care who drives.

4. Nice Person: I like to be treated like I treat others…with respect. Sure, at first everyone you meet is going to be nice, but then you soon find out how they get when they are more comfortable. I love a man that makes me laugh and that is definitely high up on my list, but even higher up than that is a man that treats me good. I love feeling loved and wanted. I’m not a needy person, but I just like to know he feels the same about me as I feel about him. Little things done or said mean the world to me…much more than any material item could mean. Simple texts or voicemails sent out of nowhere are my favorite thing. Now, I don’t want to always be told how good I look, etc., I just want to feel that I’m wanted.

And that’s it. I think. For now at least, that’s all I can come up with. I guess I should write it down so I don’t forget. But really, my list isn’t long and extensive, right? Pretty simple?

Share your lists with me. I’m interested in everyone else’s criteria for choosing a man.

Love your list!! Well, actually I love your blog!! Here’s my list:
    1. No fur (currently sleeping with my Great Danes) so no fur is a real positive).
    2. A decent smile. If he’s not funny, at least he laughs at my jokes.
    3. Doesn’t live in Nigeria.
    4. Is divorced. No single and over 50’s for me. They have to be relation-experienced.
    5. Can articulate why he ended up divorced. No clueless guys for me.
    Thanks for the post.

Great list! I need to make one of these myself very soon! You’ve gotten me thinking about what my needs are. Thanks!

I agree with all things on your list (insight to #1 though, the mom’s are afraid you will take some love from the kids away from her. as a step-child, I know this)

I will add mine to your list: must be at least my height or taller (I am 5′10); must have a full set of teeth, either his own or manufactured, but they must be there; interests beyond just sports; lives in the same state; sense of humor without finding EVERYTHING funny.

Haha teeth used to be on my list too. Well, it still is, and it’s a real important one, so I guess I’ll have to re-add it back to my list. :)
