Trying Out Online Dating Sites
It seems like most of my friends are doing the online dating thing. I don’t know, I just can’t seem to do it. I like to meet people face to face before I decide if I want to go on a date with them.
Even some of my shyest friends seem to have the guts to meet people from the computer. I mean, I’ve met a few people from the computer, but one of them I talked to for years before we met, and the other was someone from MySpace and I went into it as a friends thing, so there wasn’t any pressure.
But going on sites specifically designed for meeting a partner? Not sure I can do it. We always hear these stories about how this person met their spouse on eHarmony.com, etc., etc., but aren’t those people the exceptions?
I once had a friend that would meet tons of people online. My friend was looking for love but couldn’t seem to find it in the weirdos she met.
I just don’t think I could take the rejection if they were like “Umm, eww, I’m going to go now.”
Most of my friends are encouraging me to try it…i’m skeptical though. Anyone have any success stories from meeting someone online?

Well I was one of the first guinea pigs on this - met the man I’d marry online. Last August we celebrated 10 happy years of marriage (and 2 children, 8 and 5). Not only did we meet online but he lived in Sweden, and I lived in the UK. That’s how I’m now living on the fringe of civilisation up here in Sweden!
I think there are things you need to do to protect your personal info these days that we didn’t have to think about 11 years ago, but use commonsense and you should at least have some fun and chat with some interesting people.
Good luck!
@Sarah: Yeah, I should give it a try, but my nervousness tends to come into play right when the topic of meeting comes up.
@ImitationAngel: I’m picky too. I figure if they annoy me online then they’ll definitely annoy me in real life.
I know the lucky guy will have to talk to me for awhile before I think of meeting him.
@hooligan: I’m sure I’ll get used to it after awhile too.
@katieanne: Wow, that’s great! Your story gives hope to us all.
