Are You Kidding Me?

Okay, so I have to be at the library a lot lately for research I’m doing on a book. What I need to use there are the microfilm machines. Up until a few months ago, I don’t think I’ve ever used one before, but now I consider myself a pro at loading the thing.

So, due to recent events I haven’t been able to be at the library, but now I’m starting to go again. While before I was going in the early afternoon, I’ve decided that I want to go there a few hours before the library closes during the week because it gives me something to do and keeps me out of trouble. (Plus, a lot of cute guys are at the library at night. )

So I went to the library a few days ago and there was a guy sitting at my favorite microfilm machine. (Yes, I have a favorite one because there are only 4 and the other 3 don’t work as well). Well, this guy is sitting at my favorite one, plus has his stuff spread out all over my second favorite one.

So, I decide to pick the third machine I see, which has a warning label on it stating that it may not work right. Yeah. So while I’m trying to load the film into the machine, it’s not working so the guy comes over to help me. I guess not being there for 2 months, I got a little out of practice.

So I’m reading through old newspapers, and when I go to print a page, I find out the printer doesn’t work too well. So I get pissed that I now have to move to machine #4, which faces the wall, thereby giving me nothing to look at but the screen. (No cute guy scoping for me)

So this 4th machine magnifies my newspaper by 1000x and I can barely read it because the words are too big, and after this machine gives me a problem with the printer, I decide to give up and come back the next day. I said bye to the guy hogging the two machines and secretly wished he wouldn’t be there the next day.

So I go there last night, fully intent on getting tons of work done. I creep over to the microfilm area, hear the familiar sound of pages being printed, peek over and see the microfilm guy there AGAIN, spread out over the same 2 microfilms.

I sighed deeply, plopped myself in a chair and finished up a book I had been reading. So, I’m going to give this one more try. I will attempt to go once again tonight at the usual time, and if this guy is there again I am giving up and only going to the library during the afternoon. Although, what if this microfilm guy is there morning and night? What if he’s doing the same research I am and trying to get his book finished before I get mine done?

Oh, now it’s on.
