The Dreaded “L” Word
My friend stopped to see me today with a dilemma. The guy she’s been dating for about a month and a half now left her a voicemail last night that said “I love you”.
This of course freaked her out a little…it didn’t make her want to run, but she thinks it’s way too soon for that. I agreed with her. I asked her how often they’ve seen each other since they’ve been dating, and she says about 2-3 times a week.
In my experience, having someone tell me they love me too soon just spells disaster for me. Because then I feel like I have to tell it back to them sometime soon, even when I’m not sure that’s what I feel.
I think taking things slow is the best way to go. How can you love someone in the beginnings of a relationship, when everything is so new and fun? Of course you may think you love the person, but it could be mistaken for lust, or infatuation.
I’m going out with my friend tonight so we can discuss this topic further. Maybe I’ll go to the store and get an “I Love You” cupcake made to give to her.
