Would You Give Up Your Animals for Someone?

Published by dianae at 9:42 am under Dating Edit This

I was out with my friend yesterday and we started to have a conversation about the new guy she’s seeing. She met him off of eHarmony about a month or two ago.

Well, we got on the subject of her cats, and she was telling me how this new guy was allergic to animals. I asked her what she would do if they got married. And this friend, who we call the Crazy Cat Lady because she LOVES her cats, actually said that she’s thought about that and would have to give them up.

I was…..surprised. She’s had two of these cats since they were little babies, and they are now about 6 years old. I was shocked that she would give her animals up just because the guy she Thinks she may marry one day is allergic.

Aren’t there medicines out there our something that he could take? I don’t know, I would never give my two cats up for anyone. Yes, I may highly dislike my evil cat Steve, but all they know is me and I could never do that to them. They’ve been there for me when I’ve cried, come home in a bad mood, needed a hug, etc.

How could I ever abandon them because of a relationship I think MIGHT work out? And what if it doesn’t work out, and I gave my cats away…I know I’d be regretting it big time.

My thoughts on this are that if a guy likes me, he has to like everything about me, including my two cats. Sure, they aren’t going to live forever, but they are here with me now, and the person I’m with has to accept that. (And be an animal lover himself.)

What do you think? Would you give up your animals if a guy was allergic to them?
