Results of My Friend’s Break-Up

Published by dianae at 11:52 am under Dating Edit This

Okay, so my friend and I went up to Panera’s last night so she could break up with her boyfriend. It was raining really bad and I hate driving in the rain, but we finally made it there (in separate cars) and we talked on the phone the whole time rehearsing what she was going to say. (Thank god for Bluetooth).

So I ended up getting there before her, so I went in, ordered some food and stood there waiting for it. I had no idea if her boyfriend was already there or anything. So I see my friend in line and I want to laugh, because I know I’m secretly there and somehow I find that funny.

I end up sitting near the front window, I don’t know why, mostly because that’s where most of the people were, and I wanted to blend in with the crowd. Soon after, I see her walking around looking for him, then I get a text from her telling me to move to a booth, so I can be closer to them in case something goes wrong.

I had all my food, paperwork, books and everything spread out all across the table, and I wasn’t about to get up and move to a booth. For one, all the people around me would wonder what the hell I was doing, and 2) I felt quite comfortable sitting by the door,  because I could see everyone that walked in.

And sure enough, her boyfriend soon walked in. I knew it was him because he was carrying a pink bag of hers that she had left at his place. He walked over by me, looking for her, and thank god my phone rang as he was doing this. So I answered my phone and had a 10 minute conversation with someone while avoiding looking suspicious.

There’s actually not much left to the story…I started doing some work on my book and about a half hour the both of them emerged from a booth and walked to the door. So about 10 minutes later she called me to say she was safely away from Panera’s and that I was free to leave. I’m not sure if we had planned to do something after that whole thing, but I ended up doing some shopping on my own since I was a half hour away from home and near some good stores. I’m the laziest person on the planet when it comes to shopping, so I took advantage of this.

As for her now ex-boyfriend? He took it well, he ended up consoling her because she felt so bad about breaking up with him. She’s sad now, but she’ll get better soon. We all feel bad after breaking up with someone, but soon the sad feelings and guilt go away.

So, there was no drama like we expected. It was just peaceful and quiet and I think it was best for both of them.
