Being Set Up Once Again
Once again, someone is trying to set me up with someone they know.
I was at the store the other day and this girl came in that I think I knew from high school, but am still not sure. Anyways, she comes in all the time, but this time she asked if I was single and I said that Yes, I was happily single right now.
So she proceeded to tell me that her brother just got divorced, is a real nice guy and hands me this piece of paper with his name, phone number, MySpace page, and other info that says ‘has a job, lives with two other guys’. Why that was on there, I don’t know.
I ended up giving her my MySpace page to give to him, I figured whatever, we’ll start out that way.
So I looked him up, and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him before. He ended up sending me a message, something like ‘Hi, umm my sister gave me your MySpace page’. And that was it. So I added him as a friend and today he sent me another message, saw that I was a writer and asking me about that.
He seems nice, but I already know that when people set me up, it just doesn’t work out. Everytime they set me up, I end up feeling bad later on when there is a breakup, because it’s usually my fault and then I feel like the person that set us up won’t talk to me anymore.
I don’t really like being set up, but I’m more than willing to go out and possibly make a new friend. (Except for eHarmony, I can’t seem to get the courage up to meet anyone.)
And it’s not that I’m a negative person all the time, I just know these things don’t work because it’s happened many times before.
Although this week has been weird. Everytime I’ve been at the store I’ve had customers trying to set me up with someone they know. I think this happened last year around this time too. Must be the cold weather or something. ![]()

I’ve only been set up once in my life (i was 18) - by my mom and the guys mom. It actually worked out nicely - we hit it off and dated for several months. Then it kind of fizzled out and my family moved .. but it was nice while it lasted.
